2nd Floor

IMG

New frontiers for sound and music have been opened up by the recent proliferation of technologies for sound spatialization, and composition in virtual space. While acoustic, architectural and symbolic space has long been considered an element of musical and audio language—‘space’ takes on extra dimensions when considered in the context of contemporary 3D, 4D, multi-channel, surround/360 degree and binaural audio technologies. A new grammar for the sonic world emerges, igniting novel ways of hearing and experiencing. This series of presentations explores the history of audio spatialization technologies, aesthetic and narrative concerns and cues, the visualization of sound objects in virtual space and other ingenious new modes of composition.
