AUDIOSPHERE, a sonic exploration beyond the festival
As of may 31 along Montreal's bus network
May 31, 2012
An important player in Montreal’s cultural milieu, MUTEK is proud to partner up with the STM (Société de transport de Montréal) and 2XM Interactive for the AUDIOSPHERE MONTREAL project, an iPhone application that invites commuters to discover different musical landscapes based on given bus routes as of May 31st, both during the festival and throughout the summer!
For its thirteenth edition, the International Festival of Digital Creativity and Electronic Music embeds part of its program into the everyday lives of Montrealers. The MUTEK experience is spread out across the city’s urban transport network, offering novel ways to take in the festival’s line-up. With its AUDIOSPHERE MONTREAL iPhone application, presented by the STM, developed by MUTEK and 2XM Interactive, in collaboration with Montreal artist MONTAG, MUTEK transforms Montreal’s bus network into a sonic exploration along the 55, 80, 18, 24 and 165 bus lines. Commuters will discover a rich soundtrack of original compositions produced by local musicians and inspired by the city. Hence, AUDIOSPHERE invites Montrealers to soundtrack their commutes and experience public transit differently.
Zone 55 Saint-Laurent
From South to North, the music of KENLO CRAQNUQUES, ARTIST OF THE YEAR, THE GULF STREAM, SOCALLED, MEAT PARADE & BERNADINO FEMMINIELLI transport you along the Main.
Zone 80 Du Parc
From South to North, AGOR/Arbutus Records, MONTAG, MIRACLE FORTRESS, GHISLAIN POIRIER & LE RÉVÉLATEUR each take over one segment of Parc Avenue between downtown and Parc-Extension, by way of the Mile-End.
Zone 18 Beaubien
A mix of ambience from the minimal frontiers between La Petite-Patrie and Anjou, by way of Rosemont.
Zone 24 Sherbrooke
A mix by DJ CHAMPION that runs through the width of the city, between Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and Westmount.
Zone 165 Côte-Des-Neiges
A mix by GHISLAIN POIRIER to shake it between downtown and Town of Mount-Royal, by way of Côte-des-Neiges.
Beyond this public transit experience, passersby strolling through the city will also have access to a mix of electronic atmospheres. This program is active for the entire duration of the MUTEK festival, but will also be available throughout the year via the iPhone app, offering users the chance to appreciate exclusive music that has been conceived with their geographic situation in mind.
“With the AUDIOSPHERE MONTREAL iPhone application, the STM is proud to offer a one-of-a-kind musical experience to customers along many of its bus routes, as it allows them to discover their city in a completely novel way. Initiatives such as this one are perfectly in line with what the STM first started with Metro Arts, as it positions us as the center stage for a number of cultural events – which are both original and free of charge – all the while offering our clientele an exciting commuting experience,” declared Mr. Michel Labrecque, Chairman of the STM Board of Directors.
